Helena Pearson

“My history degree enabled me to move on to a master’s degree in Human Resource Management at Sheffield Hallam without having to do an undergraduate degree in HR. I am now a HR Manager.  A lot of the skills gained whilst completing my history degree were transferable and helped me greatly when studying and progressing into the HR career field, in particular the analytical, research and writing skills.”

"A lot of employers value the history degree and the skills gained from it. From teamwork, organisation and the timekeeping skills gained from completing a degree, to putting forward an argument backed up with evidence, attention to detail and analytical skills gained from a history degree. These skills have helped me greatly when dealing with a variety of HR issues in the workplace."

"I also made good friends and met my husband!"

Sean Barlow

Sean Barlow did a BA degree at Sheffield Hallam and then went on to work for a law firm for a year after he graduated. In 2016, Sean joined Northumbria Police Force as a Police Constable. He has worked in 24/7 response for the past four years.
